Omicron Engineering want to help you in your Motorsport ventures!
We are an enthusiastic, friendly company that have many years of experience in the automotive and motorsport sector, from classic car spares and restorations (our primary focus for the past three decades), to winning club level Formula 3 championships in turn-of-the-century single seaters.
Whether you are a novice amateur driver in need of a bit of guidance, or an experienced racer needing meticulous workmanship; on a budget of £3,000 per year or £60,000; racing a modern single seater or a classic ‘tip-top’ then we can probably help you move up the grid.
We have raced cars in, or prepared cars that have raced in the following categories: Monoposto, BRSCC F3, HSCC, CSCC, Equipe GT, 750MC, as well as many other smaller clubs, road and stage rallying, several international rallies (e.g. Peking-Paris) and track days.
Omicron can provide advice, technical support and guidance; engine rebuilds and tuning; chassis rebuilds and setups; full bodywork preparation and painting and any other work needed to create a race car to your specification. We employ highly skilled technicians and engineers, so we can manage and meet all your needs. In addition we have prepared the Reynard 883 used so successfully in 2006, 2007 and 2008 by ourselves and the Dallara F398 for 2009 and beyond. Privately Martin, Tristan and Andrew have build cars to various specifications – highlights including a Ginetta G4R, a Lancia Montecarlo ‘semi-037 replica’ for trackdays, and a fire damaged Fulvia back to full health for trackdays too. We also prepared and raced a Lancia Fulvia Sport 1300 in the HSCC championship, with impressive results, in 2001 and 2002, quickly matching and beating other cars that had been in development for much longer with more experienced drivers.
If you need some gear ratios changed, the paintwork of your trusty steed renewed, or a full on winter rebuild, then we can help. We don’t cut corners (except on the track, and only then when it’s allowed), and we don’t bodge. This means we aren’t the cheapest option, but often as not the cheapest option isn’t the best. Much of our work has been correcting work done on-the-cheap to a sensible standard. We can help you make a seat for your single seater or we can review your driving via video or datalogging and suggest where you might find time or reliability.
Currently we do not have the facilities to run a car for you on an arrive-and-drive facility.
We have recently acquired a large selection of Tom’s Toyota engine parts from the 1990s, including sumps, starter motors, oil pumps, crankshafts, camshafts, blocks, complete engines and lots of other useful parts. Please contact us if you need a part. If we don’t have it, chances are we can have it manufactured, either to an original design or designed by us on our CAD system.
Examples of recent CAD Design work, although components can range from spacers to mounting brackets to machined castings. We can also offer basic Finite Element Stress Analysis, allowing designs to be optimised for known loads and conditions. We offer in house machining, and can subcontract CNC milling, turning, laser cutting and water jet cutting as well.
